Is Minnesota's Housing Market Finally Shifting Toward Buyers?
As we move through the second half of summer, the Minnesota housing market is beginning to follow its typical seasonal pattern, but with one interesting difference.
Historically, inventory peaks in July before slowly declining as homes sell or sellers decide to take their homes off the market until next year. This year, however, inventory continues to grow into late July and early August. That's something we haven't seen in nearly a decade.
What does that mean?
For sellers, strategy is becoming more important than ever. Pricing your home correctly from the start, presenting it well, and working with an experienced agent can make a significant difference. In a changing market, knowing what's happening today, not six months ago, is critical.
For buyers, opportunities are beginning to appear. More inventory means more choices and, in some cases, more negotiating power. Depending on the property, buyers may be able to negotiate concessions that weren't possible just a few months ago.
Here's a fun industry fact: Nearly 70 percent of today's real estate agents weren't licensed before the COVID housing boom. Today's market requires a different skill set than the one many agents entered the business during. Experience and current market knowledge matter.
Whether you're buying, selling, or simply watching the market, staying informed is the best way to make confident decisions. If you'd like to talk about today's market, home values, or where interest rates may be headed, I'd be happy to help.
